"Leading the new group will be Canadian Tara Whitten, who won the gold medal in the Commonwealth Games individual time trial earlier today. A former elite skier, Whitten began racing in 2006 and has quickly risen to the top level of international cycling. Earlier this year, she won both omnium and points gold medals at the Track World Championships. She is also a two-time Canadian National Track Champion."

Commonwealth Games TT champion Whitten leads new crop of riders for Team TIBCO/To the Top in 2011

Whitten will join 4 other new signings:  Canadians Joeelle Numainville and Erinne Willcok, American Alison Powers, and Australian Carleee Taylor - more about all of them through the link

Early in the race the winner of Thueringen Rundfahrt and third at Route de France, in-form Olga Zabelinskaya (Safi-Pasta Zara) tried to stretch the bunch but it did not achieve anything. Joelle Numainville (Canada) made a big attack early on, but was unable to break away.

The early break from Lizzie Armitstead (Cervelo Test Team) was just one of the options for the team. It had the desired effect. Cervelo Team mate, Sharon Laws joined Armitstead which meant the other teams had to chase. Two strong Cervélo riders were too dangerous. The bunch closed the gap to the lone pair, Vos and her Nederland Bloeit team and Johansson and the Redsun Cycling Team worked hard on the front to bring them back.

Luise Keller (HTC - Columbia Women) counterattacked after Elizabeth Armitstead had been caught. This attack was again closed by the Nederland Bloiet. Vos sat in the bunch, just behind Pooley and Johansson watching every move.

The counter attacks and chasing caused much damage in the peloton. Once Keller was caught, Pooley attacked and the break which formed was decisive, Johansson, Pooley, Arndt and Vos.
